Project Overview
In Kelburn, Wellington, our team recently transformed a long-standing client's garden into a stunning landscape. With strategic plant placement and an expert touch in garden development, this project turned out to be a remarkable success, showcasing our expertise in garden development and soft landscaping.
Regular Garden Maintenance
We have been providing regular garden maintenance and enhancements for this client's garden for several years. Over time, we have undertaken various projects, including installing a new lawn and creating a "no mow" living pathway. This recent project is part of a continuous and evolving landscape development, reflecting our dedication to creating beautiful outdoor spaces.
The Challenge
Initial Condition:
The existing garden bed was cluttered and needed a refresh.
It contained various plants, including hydrangeas that were not thriving in their current location.
The garden bed also had big rocks and roots that needed to be cleared.
Our Approach
Clearing the Existing Bed:
We began by removing nearly everything from the existing garden bed to start with a clean slate.
Hydrangeas were carefully extracted and relocated to a shadier spot where they could thrive.
We cleared all big rocks and roots, smoothing the slope to prepare for new planting.
Plant Selection and Placement:
Groundcover Mānuka (Pisk Cascade): Chosen for its ability to eventually cover the entire slope, this plant will create a lush, cascading effect as it grows.
Hellebores: Planted beneath the magnolia tree, these flowers add elegance with their beautiful blooms.
Blue Mountain Lavenders: Placed on a steep bank, they offer vibrant color and fragrance.
Hydrangea Relocation: After removing all dead wood, we pruned the hydrangeas back to budding growth and relocated them to a shady area to promote healthier growth.
Follow-Up Care
Approximately six weeks after the initial planting, we revisited the garden for follow-up maintenance. During this visit, we added more lavenders to the bank and laid down a thick layer of mulch. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal by covering bare soil but also aids in moisture retention and weed suppression during drier months.
The Transformation
The garden's transformation was remarkable. The once cluttered garden beds are now vibrant and organised, with a diverse array of plants. The groundcover Mānuka is set to cascade down the slope, offering a natural and lush look. Meanwhile, the hellebores under the magnolia tree provide a touch of elegance, and the Blue Mountain lavenders bring colour to the steep bank.
